Epigenetic factors in beta cell development

Highly specific transcriptional programs underlie the differentiation of insulin-producing beta cells. In this project we aim to understand the role of the histone methyltransferase complex known as the Trithorax Group in regulating these transcriptional events.

Transcriptional function and dysfunction in mature beta cells

Maintenance of the correct gene expression profile is essential for beta cells to perform their complex function of detecting and responding to changes in glycemia. In this project, we want to understand how the cellular dysfunction that occurs in diabetes affects transcription factor/DNA interactions.

The role of histone methylation in Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes

An increasing body of evidence suggests a link between aberrant glucose homeostasis and insulin signalling in type 2 diabetes and the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this project, our goal is to explore this relationship, and elucidate the role of Trithorax-mediated histone methylation in AD pathogenesis.
